Visiting Scotia Lodge

We are happy to welcome all Masons to join us for both our stated communications and collation (dinner & drinks) afterwards! Please make sure to attend in jacket & tie and to arrive early so that we may meet you before the gavel sounds. Please bring your dues card and be prepared for a brief challenge.

If you are not yet a Mason you are still welcome to join us for dinner after a regular communication or to come meet some of the Brothers on the 3rd Thursday. These meetings are focused on education and development at all levels of Masonry, and you will have the opportunity to meet some of our members in a relaxed setting.

Becoming a Member of Scotia Lodge

Joining the Masons is a major decision and not one to be taken lightly – please check out our Find Out More page to learn about Freemasonry and decide it is right for you. Becoming a full member of the lodge can take some time; the process is designed to assure both candidates and current members that they are a good match and will be sincere in their commitment to each other as Masonic brothers.

  • Step 1: Ask! If you’d like to join the lodge, please contact us at scotialodge634@gmail.com and let us know a little about yourself and your desire to join. We will happily meet with you to answer any questions you might have and let you get a feel for our membership.
  • Step 2: Submit a Petition. We will provide you with a petition for membership which you may submit in person, by mail, or electronically. A small fee accompanies this petition – this is to help ensure the sincerity of the applicant and counts towards the first year of membership dues upon admittance to the lodge.
  • Step 3: The Interview. Within a few weeks of submitting your petition you will be contacted to set up an interview. This is a chance for you to meet some of our members and get to know each other in an informal setting; interviews are usually conducted at your home and we encourage your loved ones to be part of the conversation! At the next official lodge meeting following your interview the members you met will give their impressions and a vote will be taken.
  • Step 4: The Initiation & Development Process. Once you have been accepted as a candidate to the lodge you will be given a mentor and enter the initiation & development process. There are three “degrees” in the process of becoming a master mason, each marked by a ceremony, a brief lecture, and a task for the candidate who seeks to attain the next degree. These are designed to introduce you to the tenets and goals of freemasonry as well as explain some of our symbols and history. Generally more than one candidate completes this process at the same time, and during your travels you will meet and get to know the rest of the lodge members well. Once you complete all three degrees you will be a full member of the lodge and a Master Mason. This entitles you to join other related organizations if you wish.
